Joel Embiid, Sixers discuss his growing basketball IQ against doubles

USA Today

Article Summary:

The MVP candidate can quickly identify when and where a double team is coming from and he has continued to make the right decisions throughout the season.

“It’s tough for teams to really do that every time to send that double team because he’s getting better at passing on the post and his IQ,” Simmons added. “You look at it from last year and even the beginning of the season, but he’s just a really tough cover. Even when teams double him, he’s able to make shots with two guys on him. Opposing teams, there’s only so much you can really do.”

As long as the team’s shooters continue to do their part and knock down the open looks they continue to receive, then it will be tougher to defend Embiid and the entire team. “We want to be the last team standing. Other teams are going to send the same type of double teams in the same type of situations. We’re gonna need that from him and then hopefully, we can continue to make shots so he can trust us to make those plays.”

The Sixers will be looking to finish off the Wizards in Game 4 on Monday.
