The Philadelphia 76ers were eliminated from the playoffs on Sunday night in a Game 7 loss to the Atlanta Hawks, and one of the biggest storylines from the Sixers’ postseason collapse has been the performance of star guard Ben Simmons.
Simmons was a non-factor offensively throughout the series against the Hawks, and his historic struggles from the free-throw line put Philadelphia at a major disadvantage.
On Monday, NBA legend Magic Johnson said on ESPN the Simmons era in Philly is over, and Simmons needs to be moved to a new team this offseason.
“Let’s get down to the real nitty gritty of this, the whole thing. They gave away Game 5. First of all, you’ve gotta close that game out, we wouldn’t be talking about Ben Simmons. All summer long, they’re going to point back to Game 5. It should have been over.”
