The player bearing the brunt of the criticism has been star guard Ben Simmons.
This latest one comes from John Hollinger and David Aldridge of The Athletic as they have a suggestion to send Simmons to the Portland Trail Blazers for their star guard, Damian Lillard:
Hollinger: Lillard to Philadelphia for Simmons is definitely the cleanest in terms of contracts and positions, with Simmons signed for four more seasons at enough money that he can be dealt for Lillard straight up. Simmons would be an integral part of whatever the post-Lillard rebuild looks like in Portland, while Lillard would give Philly the half-court operator and long-range spacer it needs to complement Joel Embiid. The Sixers could theoretically throw in a “First available” pick likely to convey in 2027, and with a slight revision in protections to OKC, the pick would be guaranteed to convey in either 2027 or 2028.
While the contracts for Simmons and Lillard are similar, there is one point that has yet to be addressed which Aldridge brings up.
