Five Boomers scored in double figures, none of whom were Matisse Thybulle.
As usual, Matisse’s outstanding defensive capability was on display. Commentating as part of the Seven Network’s broadcast team in Australia, former NBA big man Andrew Bogut said he thinks Thybulle will eventually win an NBA Defensive Player of the Year award. Here’s the write-up from SportingNews Australia on Matisse’s contributions on the defensive end:
“Following his impressive showing against Nigeria, Matisse Thybulle was at it again on the defensive end against Italy, blowing up pick-and-rolls, playing the passing lanes and contesting every shot that came in his direction.
He picked up two quick fouls and had to sit early in the game, but his ability to force turnovers and create transition opportunities was crucuial [sic] tonight as the Aussies struggled at times to generate offence in the half-court.
