ESPN’s Bobby Marks has put together a list of the top six teams that the Sixers can move Simmons to based on assets and the amount of salary they can send back to Philadelphia. A team has to send $26.5 million back to the Sixers in a Simmons deal, just for general information.
Another hurdle: Would Cleveland give up lightly lottery-protected first-round picks in a deep Eastern Conference?
Simmons is certainly an upgrade to the Cavs’ roster, but does he push this team from the lottery to one competing for a spot in the play-in tournament?
The Pacers are a team that has some interesting pieces that they could offer the Sixers in exchange for Simmons, but would they really move the needle? Malcolm Brogdon would be a solid addition, but does he bring equal value for Simmons? That answer would be no, but the Pacers can offer a war chest of picks as well as somebody like Brogdon and it might be worth it at this point.
That is a big risk for a team that has one playoff appearance since 2003-04.
” San Antonio Spurs
The Spurs have actually had talks with the Sixers on a Simmons trade, but the talks have not gone far.
